In December of 2017, I finally went on my birthright/taglit trip to Israel. I am Jewish on my mother's side.
I have never been religious, but while I was in Israel- particularly when my group visited Tzfat- I was amazed at just how spiritual Judaism actually is (which is something I never realized on my own in the states). Up until this point, I was already practicing mindfulness and casual spirituality, so it was refreshing to learn about it being an important part of my heritage.
Program notes:
Tzimtzum is the concept from the Kabbalah where God began the process of creation through the contraction and expansion of his infinite light in order to allow for independent universes to exist. Essentially, it's the big bang. This semi-aleatoric music is my attempt to recreate these concepts sonically, with the instrumentation given.
