Black Petals was a title given to me by DeShaun, during a period of time where I was being silly on Facebook and asked my friends to give me random words or phrases to make quick melodies to for practice between projects. I asked DeShaun what that title meant to him, and I was moved.
Well, I was so moved that those themes never happened!
Black Petals is a commentary on issues of race in America. I'm multiracial myself, albeit light skinned. So this title is definitely something I relate to genetically.
My inspiration for this work came from hip hop (beatboxing flute) and global multicultural influences.
